Baby & toddler essentials checklist
Buy for the stage your child is in, not the next three. This list covers the basics most families use daily.
Newborn (0–3 months)
- Soft cotton onesies and jhablas (6–8)
- Muslin swaddles or wraps (4–6)
- Diapers or cloth nappies, plus a gentle rash cream
- Mild baby wash and unscented wipes
- Firm, flat sleep surface with a fitted sheet
- Burp cloths and bibs
- Car seat if you travel by car
6–12 months
- High chair or floor seat for meals
- Steel or silicone bowls and soft spoons
- Sippy or open cup for water
- Teething toys
- Board books
- Socket covers and cabinet locks
Toddlers (1–3 years)
- Comfortable shoes for walking
- Stacking cups, blocks and shape sorters
- Crayons and large paper
- Potty seat when they show readiness
- Leak-proof water bottle
Preschool (3–6 years)
- School bag and steel lunch box
- Puzzles (24–60 pieces) and picture story books
- Child-safe scissors, glue and craft paper
- Raincoat and a spare set of clothes for school
What you can usually skip
- Wipe warmers, baby shoe collections, and most gadget "bundles".
- Clothes more than one size ahead — children grow unevenly.
